THE TIME TO ORGANIZE IS NOW !
"Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can't be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people. "

WHY TRY AND ORGANIZE?
Union organizing is essential to protecting the jobs of existing members. A non-union company typically provides no (or sub-standard) benefits, and the pay scale is considerably less than union counterparts working in the same industry. This all equates to lower labor costs, and because of that, non-union businesses can charge less for their products and steal union business.
We highly encourage our members, and non-union friends alike, to read through this web site. It underscores how crucial Teamster unity and continued organizing is to obtaining quality contracts, respectable wages, secure medical and pension benefits, as well as job protections.
WHAT GOES IN A CONTRACT?
Once an organizing campaign and election has been successful, under a Local negotiators meet with management to establish a complete contract that enhances wages, provides benefits and important contract language that protects our members on the job.
There are many details incorporated into a labor-management agreement including:
Securing Union Pay – Union contracts provide workers with the most competitive wages and salary increases. Studies have shown that union workers make more per hour than their non-union counterparts working in the same industry.
Medical Benefits – Nearly 48 million working Americans do not have health insurance. While that number is staggering, it continues to rise daily. Moreover, many companies are canceling or eliminating job-based health benefits for their employees without any notice. We are proud that a Local negotiated contracts contain medical benefits.
Secure Pensions – a Local contracts include pension contributions to help ensure that our members will be financially sound when they retire.
Job Security – Working under a Local negotiated contract provides our, members with outstanding Teamster representation and job security that is not found at non-union companies.
Contract Language – Our contracts include important language that provides members with critical safeguards in the workplace. Non-union employees can be fired without cause at the whim of management; Local members can only be terminated if management can prove just cause.
Additionally, Local Business Agents frequently visit all job sites – and all shifts – to personally monitor working conditions. The Business Agents work closely with a large team of Shop Stewards who serve in the critical role of union liaison. Together, this dedicated and knowledgeable team enforces the written agreement between labor and management.
