School Bus Workers Ratify Strong Teamster Contracts

First Student school bus workers who are members of Local 952 in Orange, California recently ratified strong first-time Teamster contracts.

The two agreements cover the 81 First Student drivers in Santa Ana, as well as 110 drivers and 10 attendants with First Student in Mission Viejo.

“This was a sweet victory and we are very pleased,” said Cole Franklin, a driver at the Mission Viejo location.

According to Ruben Lopez, a business agent and organizer with Local 952, the workers were extremely focused throughout the negotiations of these contracts.

Both three-year agreements provide improvements to wages; paid bereavement and jury duty leaves; paid sick days; seniority rights for biding of routes; as well as layoff and recall by seniority, among many other industry-leading advancements.

“It is important to organize all of the contractors in this sector, including at companies like Durham, in order to push up wages and benefits for all hardworking bus workers,” said Patrick D. Kelly, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 952.

dont we already have have all those benifits? i know we have funeralpay sick pay jury pay they go by senority when the they lay off , its seems like what the union got them is what we already have

Ok.Every company that organizes has different wants and needs. Yes, we have those things aready mr. red shirt. So ours are totally different. Like maybe our part time workers would like medical benefits and paid vacation. Every contract is different mr. red shirt.

why are managers continuing harassing people making negative comments on this website. these same managers follow employees into bathrooms and call employees communists and some of these managers have family who are very active union members so what is the real deal here?

WHAT LAYOFF POLICY, THEY TOLD EMPLOYEES WITH 15 18 YEARS THEY HAD TO GO PART TIME. THEY NEVER WENT BY SENIORITY WHAT A BUNCH OF GARBAGE THAT WAS. EITHER YOU TOOK THE FORCED PART TIME STATUS OR YOU WERE GOING TO BE LAYED OFF WHILE EMPLOYEES WITH LEST THAN 5 YEARS THAT ARE PART TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN WORKING WHILE WE ARE HOME. LAYOFF POLICY YA RIGHT, NO VACATION OR HOLIDAY PAY AFTER 10 YEARS HERE. THE TEAMSTERS WILL HELP US GET SOME PRIDE BACK, BUT SOME BRIDGES ARE BROKEN AND THE ONLY WAY TO MEND THEM IS BRING IN NEW MGT FROM THE TOP ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE DOCK SUPERVISORS. EITHER WAY WERE GOING WITH THE TEAMSTERS AND OUR BROTHERS AT NATIONAL HAVE COME ON BOARD TOO.

Yes,Mr/Mrs/Ms Anonymous,we at Fredex may have some or all of the benefits/stipulations in the Bus Driver's contract.
The difference is the now Teamsters members VOTED for a NEGOTIATED CONTRACT.
They decided what THEY wanted,not what FREDEX giveth and FREDEX taketh away ARBITRARILY.
Would you lower/middle management types get it together when you come to this site.
Your posts are like an 8th graders version of ,"What I did this summer",or better yet,"My daddy got his job changed at FREDEX and now we can't have a vacation this year".

HAPPY TO HAVE A JOB, SO YOU MUST BE A DRIVER OR MECHANIC BECAUSE IF YOU WERE A DOCK WORKER YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN SCREWED UNLESS YOU HAD 22 YEARS AND THEY LIKED YOU. VACATION PAY GONE, HOLIDAY PAY GOME, SICK PAY CUT DOWN TO 24 HOURS, SENIORITY GONE, 17 YEARS AS DOCK WORKER HAS THE SAME SENIORITY AS A DOCK WORKER WITH 2 MONTHS, AND THAT LAYOFF BY SENIORITY OH YA THAT WAS A HUGH LIE, WHO DID THEY LAY OFF HELLO ANYONE HERE KNOW A LAYED OF WORKER. YOU CANT TELL US THEY TOOK APPX 3000 TO 5000 PEOPLE AND LAYED THEM OFF. WHAT THEY DID WAS GIVE THEM ONE REAL CHOICE AND 2 OTHER CHOICES THAT CAUSED THEM AND THERE FAMILYS ALOT OF PAIN. MY YARD NO LAYOFFS ONLY PART STATUS LOSS OF BENEFITS, LOSS OF SENIORITY, AND LOSS OF WORKING HOURS. LAYOFFS YA RIGHT.
