This week doing our pre-trip meeting at SBO, dispatch let us know that any first time HM violations will now be a write up which will not fall off until 12 months. No verbal or written warning!
So if there is any doubt with a pick up of HM ,bol, placards, id numbers, let dispatch know and let them decide if you should pick up the freight.

I asked the city manager in MRL about this and he had no idea of what I was talking about. So I went to the terminal managers office to ask him and he didn't know about it either and said he would ask his assistant. Is this just a SBO rule? Why doesn't MRL know about this rule?
I was quickly asked to read and sign a narrative on the subject, being in and out before drivers meetings. I knew what was up and agree that any time I am not absolutely sure, I call dispatch and they can make the decision. If I bring it in and it's wrong,it's they're ass not mine.
It seems that everytime FedEx (be it Express, Ground, or Freight)gets nailed with some sort of catastrofic violation or whatever; There is another "company policy" that is issued. Freight knows how to handle HM issues, the other entities are very unclear or are downright dangerous in their procedures, as they don't deal with the issue as much as we do. The "company policy" is a reaction to something that has happened and cost FedEx dearly.
As a result, we at Freight have to submit to the "rule" that we know how to handle HM issues. We aren't stupid. We have to take the HM test everytime we renew our licenses, and have to deal with the TSA fingerprinting every renewal cyle. We deal with HM issues practically everyday. I doubt that Express or Ground do the same.
The point is: Trust your training, use your common sense, and if something is not right, Take care of it before you leave the yard. The green sheet is to be signed by the Dock Supervisor, not the driver. Of course then, FedEx's common sense has no reason with any Human common sense.
This is why the Union is necessary. Policies and issues are addressed, agreed upon, and are consistent.
