Almost every customer center has one or two, “The Managers Pet”. Some co-workers shrug a shoulder and pay the pet no mind, for others they are terribly annoying, but most co-workers know the pet as threatening. Favoritism in the workplace runs the risk of pitting co-workers against one another and creating a potentially unstable situation, especially if the perceived favoritism has to do with a specific P & D area of choice that spawns overtime. For example, if the manager shows outright favoritism towards certain employees and not the others, the slighted employees become resentful, of not only the favored pet, but of the manager also.

Managers, who practice favoritism, have no chance to build a culture of trust with the employees. Practicing favoritism shows lack of self-respect, no respect for the employees and no consideration for the common goal in which this corporation strives. It shows lack of integrity and leadership. It breeds resentment, destroys employee morale and affects the bottom line of this corporation. At its very core, favoritism is unprofessional behavior. What then follows is resentment towards the manager. A manager who practices favoritism is no better than the pet he favors and will not be trusted by the employees. No one trusts a manager’s pet. Most co-workers know pets are back-stabbers and unworthy of friendship. A pet will go to great lengths to achieve his goals, even if this means the loss of a co-workers job. The pet watches every move his co-workers make and shares his knowledge with the manager. When co-workers witness favoritism on the job, most feel cheated and with unhappiness on the job, the incentive to go the extra mile is lost. Therefore this affects the employees, supervisors, the customers and finally the corporation’s bottom line.

There's no question that favoritism is a bad management practice. If corporate permits this kind of behavior and favoritism runs ramped, how are we to trust corporate? The only solution to this situation is a union. Why? When you vote for a union everyone is treated equally. Favoritism is out and seniority is in. Fact; union employees are 30% more productive than non-union employees. Why? Employees who have union jobs, like their jobs better, they are happy; there is respect on the job and with it brings a benefit that perhaps surpasses better wages or generous health insurance, “a higher life satisfaction”. Stop the practice of favoritism; it’s just plain, bad business. Vote “YES”'
